Library shelves contain many books on infertility, but very few are devoted
solely to infertility in the male. Many of the books that do discuss the
subject of male infertility relate to its scientific basis or to some specific
aspect of clinical andrology rather than to male infertility in general.
With the application of microassisted fertilization to the management of
many forms of male infertility, the problem of male infertility is increasingly
in the hands of the gynaecologist. Many of these clinicians have had
little training in either the examination or the investigation of the disorders
of the male genital tract. With these problems in mind, I decided that a book
that was concerned only with the clinical aspects of male infertility was
indeed needed.
This book is concerned solely with the clinical aspects of male infertility
and contains only basic information relating to the science of andrology. I
make no apologies for this omission: the science of andrology is not the
object of this book. This is a book by a clinician for clinicians, particularly for
gynaecologists, who now often have to battle to understand reproductive
pathology in infertile male patients.
